AMBALA: The Punjab Governor, B.K.N. Chhiber, categorically denied that huge amounts of money and jewelry, belonging to the late Governor, Surendra Nath, were recovered from the Punjab Raj Bhawan. He regretted that some people were indulging in ruumor-mongering, which should be curbed.
Talking to media persons, he refuted the allegations of the Akali leaders about his involvement in the Blue Star Operation. He said that his posting was in the Eas tem Sector during the time of the operation.
Hoy however, added that as a soldier, he would: have done his duty required of him, had he been deputed there.
The Governor, in reply to a question, said that the controversial issue of the abattoir at Dera Bassi was being reviewed, since it had become a bone of contention between agitators and the government.
