LUDHIANA: Atamjit Singh (19) son of Punjab Agricultural University’s Dr Gurbachan Singh Mavi along with Mohan Singh (22) of Araith village were killed by the police in Khanna Sadar police station area on February 5 the PHRO alleged.
The two youths were earlier reported abducted by a police party of DSP Shiv Kumar Sharma and CIA Inspector Manmohan Singh at Bhai Bala Chowk Ludhiana. The police according to PHRO chairman Harinder Singh Khalsa had a private van (PN3066) which after picking up the youths went to an unknown destination.
There were at least three witnesses who had recognized the boys. The police restored the vehicle to its owner from whom it was forcibly snatched. The youths were taken away by a constable from a shop at the Bhai Bala Chowk The police statement that two unidentified boys had been killed near Khanna was a fabrication Khalsa added. Actually the two youths were shown as unidentified persons after they were done to death in a fake encounter.
The PHRO said killing the two youth revealed a new pattern whereby youths were kidnapped tortured their clothes changed and then killed as unidentified armed men in an encounter’.
The PHRO has apprised Amnesty International of the developments. Dr Mavi the father of Atamjit is also a vice president of the Punjab Human Rights Organisation ‘
