NEW DELHI A writ petition seeking declaration of innocence of Kehar Singh in the India Gandhi Murder case was filed in the Supreme Court by his son Rajinder Singh. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and R.K. Dhawan have been named as respondents. Kehar Singh was hanged on January 6 for conspiracy to assassinate India Gandhi. He was widely to have been innocent.
The writ petition is filed in the light of disclosure made in the Thakkar Commission report. Rajinder Singh wants the court to declare him the son of an innocent father and demands Rs 10 lakhs as compensation towards the loss of his reputation and livelihood.
He has appointed Senior Counsel Ram Jeth malani to argue the case. No date has yet been fixed.
