CHANDIGARH: Dependents of police personnel and civilians Killed while fighting militants will be given “bravery awards’ of Rs 50,000 in addition to the ex- gratia payment of Rs one lakh, the Punjab Finance Minister Dr. Kewal Krishan, announced in the Vidhan Sabha on Friday.
“The Finance Minister, who was winding up a general discussion on the state’s 1992-93 budget, said that those injured would also be ‘entitled to the ‘bravery award.”
‘He said that pensions of widows whose husbands were killed by militant had been increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 1200 per month. Out of 2200 cases where dependents were entitled to jobs, 1650 had been also been decided to offer a job to the nom nee of the person whose only son had been killed by militants. The government would Rs 7 crore for the rehabilitation of 20,000 families identified as migrants in 1000 houses being built ‘safer areas.
