NEW DELHI, India: The Indian government has assigned an additional 1,250 police to patrol its border with Bangladesh in an effort to curb the flow of legal immigration, the Press Trust of India reported on Friday. The additional personnel will be deployed in Assam, the state where native residents led a five year protest against illegal settlers from Bangladesh and Nepal. The protest ended in August, 1985, after agreement was reached with the federal government on the issue.
