CHANDIGARH: Elaborate security arrangements notwithstanding, the call for a Punjab bandh given by the All India Sikh Students Federation to demand the release of its president Manjit Singh evoked a fair response in rural areas. In cities and towns the response varied from poor to lukewarm.
The impact of the bandh could be felt everywhere in the state. Although the state owned Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Corp operated buses, there were not many passengers in them. Around 4 pm there were in a couple of empty buses in the Morinda bus stand and about 10 passengers.
Supply of milk, vegetables and other commodities from rural areas were mostly suspended. Many industrial units also had poor attendance.
