LUCKNOW: Ace fullback Pargat Singh has been retained as captain of the Indian team to participate in the forthcoming Beijing Asian Games Hockey Tournament
The 16 member team announced here after three days of selection trials, find: three changes from the squad that did duty in the BMW Toumament in Amstelveen (Holland) last month,
The three newcomers all from Bombay, are Harinder Singh (fullback) and John Femandes and Darryl D’Souza (both for. wards). They replace Anjelus Belung, Ajit Lakra and Edgar Mascarenhas,
Incidentally, the three newcomers have been in the training camp ever since Bombay won the national championship in Gwalior.
The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) secretary, Prof Gursewak Singh who announced the team, also stated that Atif Idris would lead the other Indian team on a tour of the Soviet Union next month,
The 16 member team trained by Mr. Jhamanial Sharm and chosen by the seven member selection committee is: Mark Patterson, A.B, Subbaiah, Pargat Singh (captain) Jagdey Singh, Harindra Singh, Mohd Arif, Vivek Singh, Shakeel Ahmed, John Femandes, R.P. Singh Jagbir Singh, Dhanraj Pillay, Gundeep Kumar, Thoiba Singh, Jude Felix and Daryl D’ Souza.
Mr. Ghufrane Azam will be the Manager, Mr. Jhamanlal Sharma the coach and Inam ur Rehman the assistant coach.
