AMRITSAR: From pre-nursery schools to big educational institutions turning into “profit houses” is not a new phenomenon in Punjab but Amritsar seems to have surpassed all other places. Parents suffer due to a steep rise in the tuition fees by school managements as the city has witnessed a mushroom growth of such institutions in past few years. For precursory classes the feces as high has Rs 180, In addition to certain charges like annual fee and building fee are taken from parents regularly, These charges generally vary from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for the pre-nursery classes, For two children getting admission in the same school the concession given for one child is Rs 10 only, Whereas incent in schools no concession is given at all, The annual charges are levied without a receipt being given. The race is not confined to private schools. Certain recognized institutions have also started this business. Apart from this torture parents are forced to purchase uniforms, books, bags, ties, etc. for their wards from certain approved shops or from school itself whereas such things could be purchased at cheaper rates from the market.
