NEW DELHI: Army and the Border Security Force have been committing atrocities on innocents in various parts of the Kashmir Valley according to representatives of the Coordination Committee on Kashmir who visited the Valley recently.
The Coordination Committee was set up in September 1990 to monitor Human Rights violations and to promote dialogue between the local people and the Central Government. So far the Committee has come out with five reports on Kashmir.
Jagat Ram Sahini and Iqbal K. Ansari who travelled along the Valley between October 26 claimed that they had spoken to the gang rape victims in Chak Saidapur of Shopian. “In view of all the circumstantial evidence and the medical examination report the team is convinced that gang rape was committed by Army personnel” the team report said.
The report of the Committee also alleged that “during a crackdown in Buchwara four youth including a football player with a fractured leg were picked up and killed.”
In Budsgam the report pointed out a BSF party mistook an air blast on October 15 to be a militant fire and started retaliating by setting fire to nine shops and houses.
Talks with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Council leader Maulana Abbas Ansari J&K Peace and Solidarity leader H.N.Wanchoo Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani among others were fruitful.
