KARACHI Pakistan: President Mohammad Zia ul Haq said that he would invite the southwest African Peoples Organisations (SWAPO) to open a diplomatic mission in Pakistan.

He told reporters he would make the offer to SWAPO which is fighting to end South African rule of Namibia (southwest Africa) during the summit of the nonaligned movement opening at Harare.

General Zia said before leaving for Harare that Pakistan would seek closer ties and cooperation with African Liberation Movements and the Front Line African States Confronting the South Africa.

Pakistan would extend full support to the objective and aspirations of the South African and Namibian people for freedom from racism and colonialism he said.

He also said he hoped the summit would call for an early withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan in a political settlement to end more than seven years of war there.

He said Afghanistan would be discussed in Harare and added “It is Pakistan’s hope that the summit will call for a political settlement based on early withdrawal of the Soviet forces from Afghanistan and the return of Afghan refugees to their homeland in safety and honour.
