KARACHI, Jan. 10, Reuter: Pakistan has seized four Indian trawlers with 60 crew for fishing within its territorial waters, the Official Associated Press of Pakistan said today. Quoting the harbor police, the news agency said the vessels were seized on January 6 by the recently established Maritime Security Agency (MSA). The crewmen were under arrest and legal proceedings had been started against them. Pakistan accused India of illegally detaining more than 200 Pakistani fishermen and 41 boats in Pakistan’s territorial waters in the past 10 weeks.

Prime Minister Mohammad Khan Junejo on January 1 said that his government was negotiating with New Delhi over the issue.

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony for the MSA, which has one destroyer and five patrol boats, he pledged to protect Pakistani fishermen form foreign harassment.
