ISLAMABAD, AUG. 3, REUTER — Pakistan on Wednesday denied any involvement in an alleged plot to kill Indian prime minister Rajiy Gandhi and home (interior) Minister Buta Singh.
The allegations, reported in the authoritative times of India on Thursday, caused an uproar in the Indian parliament with members demanding retaliation against Pakistan.
The newspaper said the plot was revealed in documents captured by Indian security forces.
A Pakistan foreign ministry spokesman said the report was baseless and added that Islamabad “strictly adheres to a steadfast policy of noninterference in the internal affairs of other states.”
The spokesman said it was “inconceivable that Pakistan should be involved in any activity directed against the Indian leaders whom we hold in high esteem…”
Pakistan and India have fought three wars since their independence from Britain in 1947.
