ISLAMABAD: The Benazir administration has, in preparation for the upcoming Indo Pakistan talks at the level of foreign Secretaries, underlined its support for the right of self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
According to the spokesman, the Prime Minister had categorically affirmed during the Cabinet meeting, that a comer’s tone of Pakistan’s foreign policy was its support for the right of self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the U.N, resolutions. She was further quoted as having told the Cabinet that her Government “will continue to extend political moral and diplomatic Support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. the observations on “self-determination” made by the Prime Minister assume greater significance in the context of resolution passed on Dec, 19 by the Cabinet of “Azad Kashmir.” this resolution reiterated that the Kashmiris were “the primary party” to the Indo Pakistan dispute over Kashmir and that no talks aimed at setting this issue could produce results if the Kashmiris themselves were not taken into confidence. The Cabinet of the “Azad Kashmir” also opposed the upcoming talks between India and Pakistan, on the grounds that meaningful parleys could take place only at the level of the Prime Ministers of these two countries.
