ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is ready to reciprocate any gesture by India for reducing tension between the two countries, Pakistani foreign secretary Tanvir Ahmed Khan stated here on Saturday.

Responding to questions from newsmen at a reception hosted by the Italian ambassador, he said Pakistan would move towards normalisation of bilateral relations if India pulled out its armoured formations from the Indo Pak borders.

He said it had not (not) yet officially been confirmed that India had withdrawn some armoured formations from border areas south of Punjab.

Reports from New Delhi quoting Indian defence officials had stated that the troops had been moved back as a “unilateral gesture.” The New Delhi report said that the director general of military operations (DGMO) had informed his Pakistani counterpart about the movement.

Tanvir Ahmed Khan confirmed contact between the DGMO’s of the countries two days back. He said they discussed matters concerning movements of troops on borders discussing ways to reduce the escalating tension between the two south Asian neighbors.

Meanwhile, Pakistan and the United States have signed a contract in Rawalpindi under which Pakistan aeronautical complex becomes of the international aircraft parts manufactures. The Pac will manufacture parts that would be directly installed on F16 aircraft.
