NEW DELHI (PTI): Pakistan is reportedly expanding its Inter-Services Intelligence operations (ISI) by strengthening its representation in neighboring Kathmandu and Dhaka, according to director general of Border Security Force (BSF) Prakash Singh.

In an interview to PTI, Singh said the operations by the Pak ISI, which has often been cited by Indian Intelligence of fomenting trouble in the country, was being expanded. However, he said at present there was nothing concrete to suggest that in view of the securing of Punjab border, the eastern corridor was now being used by either Sikh or Muslim militants although there have been Stray incidents.

He said in fact the major problem on the 4278km long eastern bor der, including Myanmar, was that of infiltration by Bangladeshis and insurgents of northeast. That too, during the past one year, has shown a declining trend specially in the infiltration due to strict vigil, partial fencing and construction of border roads and securing of Punjab border, he said Another factor was the fencing that was done in Punjab border, which had an effect here, He said in many cases the illegal entrants from Bangladesh used to sneak into Pakistan via Punjab but with near to lal fencing this was not possible. “The only alternative for such infiltrators left is to use the Rajasthan desert route, which is not a sensible proposition. Although the desert route is vulnerable to smuggling it is a great physical hazard for all those who use It.” he said.
