ISLAMABAD (PTI): Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto Nov, 7 said there is an “urgent need” to find a negotiated, peaceful settlement to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and in the spirit of the Shimla accord.

She said this during talks with the visiting United States assistant secretary of state Robin Raphel and emphasized the “importance™ of resolving the Hazratbal crisis in Srinagar.

“The meeting covered bilateral, regional and international issues including the situation in the region, in particular Kashmir,” an official release said, it said “Pakistan’s increasing concern on the tensions in the valley specially the importance of resolving the Hazratbal crisis was conveyed to Raphel. There was agreement on the importance of lessening tensions.”

The need for working towards: nuclear nonproliferation was also discussed.

The Pak premier was assisted by the foreign minister Farooq the US official is on the second leg of her tour of the region and Central Asia.

Bhutto conveyed to Raphel her government’s desire to work with the Clinton Administration for removing “strains” which had grown and “raising the level of Pak US relations to a higher plane of cooperation and understanding.”
