KABUL: The rebels fighting the Government of President Najibullah have suffered a serious setback with four prominent field commanders of the Mujahideen making peace with Kabul. Turan Tahir with his 1800 men in the strategic province of Ghor has agreed on local ceasefire. So has Mohammed Hassan from Baghlan with 1900 men. Haji Hamra from Kunduz comes with 2100 men while Haji Subsizar who brings with himself 500 men is also from the province of Baghlan.
The four former rebel commanders are now in Kabul. Turan Tahir and Mohammed Hassan belong to the JamaitiIslami. Haji Hamra and Haji Subsizar belong to the Islamic Party which is led by Gulbuddin Hikmatyar. Their step in opting for peace has dealt a severe blow to the Government in exile formed by the seven party alliance in Pakistan. Gulbuddin Hikmatyar isa leading light of that alliance and Government.
