The State Government of Orissa which was going ahead with the holding of panchayat elections. under the old Act has decided to postpone the elections indefinitely following the Constitutional amendment and the need for its ratification by the State Assemblies, Similarly, political circles here presumed that the panchayat elections in Punjab may also be postponed as there is no point in holding election under the old act.
