NEW DELHI: The non-BJP opposition stalled the proceedings of both Houses of Parliament for almost the entire two days demanding resignation of the Prime Minister Narasimha Rao in the wake of the Demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

They also called for the arrest of L.K.Advani who resigned as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Dec.7andabanon the BJP allied organizations.

Agitated members of the Janata Dal the Left and other parties did not allow the Prime Minister to take a statement on the subject in the Lok Sabha. In the Upper House also the home minister Chavan was prevented from making a statement.

Repeated pleas by the Speaker Shivraj Patil to at least let him have a resolution condemning the Ayodhya incident fell on deaf ears. Patil said what had happened deserved to be condemned and a unanimous resolution on the issue by the House was necessary to send the right signal to the people at this juncture.

The demolition also created uproar in the Upper House leading to adjournment of the proceedings up to2:30 p.m. after only 15 minutes. The House was still in commotion in the afternoon and the Chairman K.R. Narayanan called it a day within three minutes. As the Lok Sabha met a group of members including Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait and E.Ahmed of the Indian Union Muslim League Sultan Owaisi of the Majlis-eIttehadul Muslimeen Ram Vilas Paswan (JD) and a few Left Front members rushed into the well of the House raising slogans.
