NEW DELHI, India- Two unknown assailants Saturday shot and killed one person and wounded another in the northern state of Punjab, the Press Trust of India news agency said.
The Press Trust, quoting a police report, said two men on a motor scooter opened fire on two people in the village of Phillaur, about 215 miles northwest of New Delhi.
One person was killed and the second was wounded, the news agency said.
It said the two gunmen, who police believe may have been Sikhs, fled on the scooter.
No further details were immediately available.
