CHICAGO,IL: Governor Jim Edgar of Illinois recently appointed S. Rajinder bir Singh Mago to his Asian American advisory council which will advise him on matters of concern to Asian Americans of Illinois. Mago a senior engineer with Navistar international transportation crop for 17 years is the first Sikh in Illinois to be on this council governor’s announcement came at the state of Illinois center reception he hosted for the Asian American heritage month.

A total of 16 representatives from various Asian American communities with diverse ethnic backgrounds were appointed to this council. Sikh American community of Chicago area very actively participates in all the Asian American community functions resulting in the state of Iinois proclamation of “Sikh American heritage day” on April 14,1991.
