LAUSANNE, Oct. 15,Reuter: A glittering array of sports stars have been paraded before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) delegates as the 13 candidates seeking either the 1992 Summer or Winter Olympics jostle for attention.

Such high profile involvement is rare, but most of the candidates can boast an impressive array of sporting heroes to give their image an extra gloss.

Soccer stars Johan Cruyff and Bobby Charlton line up now for Amsterdam and Birmingham, rival bidders for the Summer Games.

Jose Manuel Abascal, third in Los Angeles, is one’ of Barcelona’s men here,

Five times Wimbledon tennis champion Bjorn Borg promotes the cause of Swedish Winter Games hopeful’s falun,

He said he hoped tennis would become an established part of the Olympian to all. “Everyone should play”, he said during a flying visit from New York.

Winter Games candidates Anchorage alone have come without attendant champions, though the Alaskans readily admit they have few to call on.

“We thought it more important to show the enthusiasm and spirit of Anchorage rather than Olympic past champions” Organising committee member Ron Petro said.
