NEW DELHI: The Congress (I), the largest party supporting the minority Indian government headed by Chandra Shekhar on Noy 23 dismissed as “kite flying” reports suggesting of a “troika” comprising Rajiv Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar and Devi Lal for smooth coordination between it and the ruling JD (S).
”There is nothing of that sort, No committee. No troika”, a party spokesman, M.J. Akbar told reporters when asked to comment on the report.
Akbar also denied that emissaries of the prime minister were meeting the Cong (I) president in this regard.
He however made it clear that is party, being a major supporting party, expected to be informed and. consulted on matters of key concern to the government.
In reply to queries, Akbar said that the new government should accord highest priority to the immediate crisis in regard to the price situation and foreign exchange reserves.
Asked whether the party still had any reservation over the inclusion of certain persons in the union council of ministers, Akbar reiterated that it was the prerogative of the prime minister to choose his ministers.
Referring to V.P. Singh’s charge in a newspaper interview that he was removed from office to stall investigations into the Bofors scandal, he said it would be interesting point for L.K. Advani to react since the right wing BJP had removed him from office.
