NEW DELHI: The withdrawal of the Constitutional Amendment Bill relating to electoral reforms does not mean any “humiliation or debacle” for the government and “there is nothing for me to resign about” Parliamentary Affairs Minister V.C.Shukla said last week.

Taking part in an Interview for the “Eyewitness” news program slated for telecast on Doordarshan on June 17 night Shukla said the government was determined to bring forward the bill and will hold another special session “if necessary.”

However he said he took full responsibility that he could not accomplish the task of “convincing” all parties he said he had tried his best but there “were some doubts in some people’s minds which could not be reconciled.” The government offered to make “small adjustments” to the electoral reforms bills it withdrew in Parliament even as Seshan vowed to be the impartial referee who would umpire according to the rules.
