NEW DELHI(PTI): Leader of the Indian delegation to UN, human rights commission Atal Behari Vajpayee last week said there was absolutely no agreement to allow a fact finding team of envoys from Islamic countries to visit the state.
Moreover, he termed Pakistan’s claim to have kept alive its resolution on Kashmir as ‘preposterous.” Vajpayee, who returned here from Geneva last week, said that the resolution was totally withdrawn.
“It is absolutely clear that the resolution was totally dropped and not deferred,” he said.
The chairman of the commission has categorically stated that the resolution was no more on the agenda, he said, adding that the Pakistan should gracefully accept defeat.
The UNHRC did not see, “any merit in high-pitched Pakistan propaganda regarding human rights in Kashmir.” Vajpayee warned Pakistan rulers that if they attempted to revive the alleged human right violation question at the session of the U.N. general assembly, they would face the same fate as in Geneva. Reacting to Pakistan foreign secretary Shahryar Khan’s statement regarding visit of the Islamic country’s team to Kashmir, Vajpayee said there was no understanding to that effect at all.
