NEW DELHI: The five party National Front presidium denounced the dismissal of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) government in Assam and warned against similar “arbitrary and antidemocratic” actions in the states of Tamil Nadu and Bihar.
The presidium, took grave note of the demands from the Congress (1) party and its allies for the dismissal of the popularly elected governments in Tamil Nadu and in Assam. Assam, Tamil Nadu Bihar are all ruled by constituents of the National Front or its allies.
The Congress (I) renders critical support to the break way faction of the Janata Dal that rules the country. The parent Janata Dal was the dominant organisation of the five party national front which held the reigns of power before the Pro Hindu Bhartiya Janata Party decided to withdraw its support and the break way faction formed a government with the Congress (Ds assistance.
In are solution, the front said the center’s decision to postpone elections constituted an assault on the constitution and had set a dangerous precedent. Demanding immediate elections in Assam, the front said the sanctity of the regular Periodicity of elections had been blatantly violated.
It expressed concern over fact that instead of treating specific parts as “disturbed areas” the whole state had been declared a disturbed area.
The presidium also described the attack on former prime minister Singh and other Janata Dal leaders in Bhopal on Dec 2 as ‘vicious and premeditated” and blamed the BJP, its front organisations and the fundamentalist VHP for the incidents.
