NEW DELHI: The election special issue of “Eyewitness” video magazine has been “damagingly censored” Karan Thapar the Magazine’s executive producer said on Monday.
Three stories in the two-and-a half hour magazine have been censored although the magazine’s exclusive report on the secret talks between the government and Sikh militants has been untouched he said here.
In a story examining the connection between dacoits and politicians in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh references to present day politicians and specific references to political parties have been deleted by the censors he said.
Another item censored was a Story on the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Hindutva campaign in Gujarat Thapar said
The third story in which the censors asked for changes was a Story on clandestine arms manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In this story references to the U.P police and an unnamed politician were required to be dropped he added.
Also he said the censors asked the magazine to drop sequences where an illicit arms manufacturer says that he makes guns because the profits were greater
