Judicial Magistrate shot dead in Ludhiana: N.C. Prashar, a Judicial Magistrate at Jagraon in Ludhiana district, was killed at the hands of car borne militants, the police said. No one has so far owned responsibility for the killing nor is any cause or grievance known.

VHP rejects Rajiv formula on Ayodhia

Congress (1) chief Rajiv Gandhi’s proposal to constitute a five member enquiry commission of Supreme court judge’s to determine the birth place of Rama for constructing a temple has been rejected by Vishy Hindu Parishad, the fundamentalist Hindu organisation, Its Secretary General Ashok Single stated that VHP’s talks with leaders of Muslims on the issue also made no progress as, according to him, they still behaved as “an aggressive community”.

Arrests drama is over: The Chandigarh administration has released Parkash Singh Badal, Capt Kanwaljit Singh and General Narinder Singh from the local jail after they were detained in the wake of the proposed Anandpur Sahab conclave of Akalis. Now the only detainee remains to be released is Simranjit Singh Mann who has been held under TADA and cannot get bail.

Longowal Akalis reject Tota Singh’s line: The Akali Dal (L) which has pockets of influence in Punjab has rejected Dal (L) and merge into the Akali Dal (M). The party’s working committee has removed Tota Singh from the post and has appointed Kabul Singh in his place as chief of Dal (L).

Governor cries in wilderness: Punjab Governor Virender Verma’s recent moves pleading for transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, the reference of river water issue to Supreme Court, an end to police repression etc. In fact, he was compelled to withdraw his statement on Chandigarh. It appears Verma is on the way out In any case no one in Delhi is taking him seriously.
