TUJS Withdraws Support: Majumder Resigns AGARTALA:
The 4 year old Congress (I) coalition government in the state of Tripura fell Monday when its partner the Tripura Upajati Jula Samity withdrew its support.
Stale Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar gave his resignation to state governor KD Ragunath Reddy. Dissident Congress (l) leader Radhika Ranjan Gupta and Samir Ranjan Burman then met with governor Redidy and stated the claim to form a government.
The two said they had the support of 22 of 24 MLS and would be prepared to name a leader after their meeting on Tuesday. The meeting held at the residence of part whip Rasik Lal Ray was attended by ministers and MLAS who had been loyal to Chief Minister Majumder although he did not attend.
The short term crisis ended Wednesday with the Congress (I) legislative pany (CLP) unanimously electing Public Works Department Minister Samir Ranjan Burman as CLP leader. Eleven cabinet ministers also took the oath of office and three TIUS cabinet ministers were again inducted.
