NEW DELHI: A two-day international conference on “quality eye banking and corneal surgery” will be held in the Indian capital New Delhi from Friday.
Organized by the Eye Bank Association of India the conference will be attended by more than 200 Ophthalmologists from India and abroad.
SONITPUR: The army in northeastern Indian state of Assam has for the first time organized an eye operation camp in civil areas in Sonitpur district.
The nine-day camp will conclude on January 31. More than 300 patients with advanced cataract were screened and 100 patients were operated upon.
PUNE: The three-day 18th annual “Epigraphically Congress” will be held at the Bharat Itihas Samshodhak Mandal in Pune in the western Indian state of “Maharashtra from February 1.
About 120 delegates from different states and universities will attend the Congress which will include an exhibition on the evolution of Indian script.

JAMMU: Several hundred vehicles continued to remain stranded at different places from Jammu city (winter capital of the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir to batote as 300-kms Jammu Srinagar national highway continued to remain blocked for vehicular traffic for the fifth consecutive day Wednesday.
Official reports said the national highway was cleared of land sides for some time Tuesday but continuous rainfall triggered landslides and resulted in closure of the highway. However restoration work was in progress.
SRINAGAR: Eleven persons including a security man were killed and 15 wounded in the Kashmir valley since Tuesday night while life in Srinagar continued to be disrupted for the sixth straight day Wednesday as authorities lifted day-curfew.
Ten suspected subversive elements including seven militants were captured during searches in parts of Baramulla Kupwara and Srinagar districts during the period an official release said. Authorities announced relaxation of curfew in Srinagar from 0500 hours to 2200 hours local time from Wednesday.
Shops and business establishment’s semi government institutions banks and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar. Attendance in government offices was reported thin.
Curfew was clamped in the municipal limits of Srinagar and three towns of Anantnag district soon after a bomb explosion in the office complex of the state director general of police on Friday last in which a constable was killed and five top officers including the then DGP JN Saksena were injured.
A security man was killed when militants fired at security forces at Qammarwari Cowk in downtown Srinagar on Tuesday. The security forces returned the fire and in the exchange of fire four persons were killed and 12 injured. Later one of the injured died of his wounds the release said
CHANDIGARH: Six people including four militants and police constable were killed in continuing violence in Punjab overnight Tuesday.
Seven suspected militants were captured in parts of the state during the period.
