* Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, arrived in New Delhi, Tuesday, amid unprecedented security arrangements in his welcome speech at the airport Rajiv described him as the “Prince of Peace”. Gorbachev is on a four day visit to India.
* Six members of a Constable’s family were killed in a village near Kapurthala by unknown assailants. Reacting to the killings, Punjab Police Chief, Mr. J.F. Ribeiro said in Amritsar that such killings will strengthen police determination to finish the violent elements rather than demoralize it.
* Gunmen shot dead son of Amritsar Superintendent of Police. It is believed that the killing was the result of police officer’s alleged involvement in fake encounters.
* Khalistan Commando Force claimed responsibility for the ambush in which four policemen were killed. Meanwhile, a scooter rider was lulled in Gurdaspur district and two freedom fighters were killed by security forces.
* Complete strike was observed in most of Punjab towns on the call given by A.I.S.S.F. The call was given in protest against the arrest of the Federation leaders. The strikers turned violent at some places and burnt down five buses.
