SAN JOSE,COSTA RICA: Gunmen who have held the Nicaraguan ambassador and 15 others at his embassy for a week issued new demands Sunday.
Late Sunday, the gunmen issued a statement urging the United States and others to freeze economic aid to Nicaragua “until an investigation is completed” into President Violeta Chamorro’s government.
The gunmen object to Chamorro’s 1990 compromise plan allowing Sandinistas to retain control of the police and army.
