NEW DELHI: The Nepalese Prime Minister, Man Mohan Adhikari, has called for a thorough review of the 1950 Indo-Nepal treaty of peace and friendship but did not favor its abrogation, report Agencies.
“We do not want to abrogate it, we want to update it so that recent changes in international political scenario are reflected in the treaty,” he said.
The Nepalese Prime Minister was replying to a state or queries after delivering a lecture at the India International Center here soon after his arrival on a five-day official visit
He said Nepal wanted certain provisions in the treaty including security clauses to be changed and added both sides can sit together and sort out these problems.
Ata 30 minute meeting with the President, Dr. S D. Sharma, Adhikari emphasized the importance of Indian investment in the Himalayan Kingdom and said that his government would create an attractive climate for this purpose
He said there was no evidence of anti Inddia activities by the ISI and added if there is such allegations India should provide evidence.
