TIRUCHIRAPPALLEA seven foot bronze statue of Jawaharlal Nehru here was blasted to pieces by miscreants in Tamil Nadu state, southern India, on November 22.
Pieces of the statue were scattered over a 50foot radius and glass windows of nearby buildings were shattered indicating that a powerful blasting device had been used.
District collector N. Sundara devan and police officials inspected the spot. C. Durairaj, 1G, intelligence, police department, said the state crime branch had taken up investigations.
Police suspect that fighter Sri Lankan Tamil militants or some Naxalite group to be behind the incident, PTI MADRAS: Indian peace keeping force (IPKF) would vacate Sri Lanka’s particular district by Nov 30, an IPKF release said here, PTI reports.
The Island’s security coordination group had been advised to take necessary steps for the maintenance of law and order.
