NEW DELHI: Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said as need to revamp the administration in Punjab and admitted that it lacked coordination.

Responding to the members queries on the situation in Punjab in the wake of Monday’s toll of 27 persons in violence in the state, Mufti Sayeed said there was no letup in the measures being taken against the militants and assured the house that the government was doing everything that was humanely possible to combat the situation in Punjab.

The Home Minister said Sikhdom’s holiest shrine, the Golden Temple as well as other shrines would not be allowed to be used by militants again.

Referring to the holding of elections in Punjab which has been under direct central rule for over three years, Sayeed said there was need to initiate the political process.

The People of Punjab want peace and the increase in the agricultural and industrial production this year compared to last year proved what he had stated, Sayeed said,

In order to check the infiltration of militants returning after receiving training from across the border. Sayeed said fencing of the border was being extended and people on the borders being issued identity cards.
