CHANDIGARH: Efforts are on to strike a compromise between Novjot Sidhu and the relatives of Gurnam Singh who allegedly died of the blows received from the cricketer and his friend in a fight at a traffic junction in Patiala last week. Sources close to Sidhu said that in a desperate bid to salvage the tottering career of the star opener, a financial deal is contemplated for the withdrawal of case of culpable homicide against Sidhu.
For the past one week Sidhu was leading the life of a fugitive and was underground. He had been staying with trusted friends at Chandigarh and Patiala while his lawyers were trying to prevent his arrest by getting anticipatory bail. The Patiala court stayed his arrest. The complete postmortem report conducted on the body of Gurnam Singh would be submitted after getting the report of the pathologist. However, the preliminary report suggested that the injury was caused by a blunt weapon. But there was no mention of the use of blunt weapons in the FIR registered on December 27. Eye witnesses of the incident said that the in: jury which looked as if caused by a blunt weapon was sustained when Gurnam Singh hit his head against the side railing. Sidhu is the son of Bhag: want Singh Sidhu, a former advocate general of Punjab.
