AMRITSAR: The center is considering a proposal to deploy at the earliest the National Rifles a new Para military organization being set up to deal with the militancy in Kashmir and Punjab. The organization will have ex-servicemen and new recruits.
According to reliable sources various units will be deployed in the border districts where security men of the BSF, CRPF and the Punjab police now outnumber the population which has been greatly depleted over the last 10 years.
The principal secretary to the Prime Minister BD Deshmukh is reported to have called a high level meeting after flying over the border districts in a helicopter where this decision was taken. He also reviewed the security set up in Punjab. The focus was on the modalities of the National Rifles deployment.
