LUDHIANA: The owners of 202 acres of land of the Nasrali villages in this district have at last got the possession of their land and sown which in the same.
The owners of the land were not being allowed to cultivate their land allegedly under pressure from Excise and Taxation Minister Shamsher Singh Dullo after the Director Consolidations, Punjab had given verdict in their favor. The minister allegedly wanted to buy the landat the raucous Rs 1 lakh peracro whereas the owners of this land had refused to oblige. The minister had allegedly used the police pressure to get the land. Nearly 100 residents of the village were challenged under sections 107/151 an apprehension of a breach of the peace of the CrPC.
The Tribune had exposed this alleged land grab racket in its issue of June 24, 1994, and the political parties of the state had raised this issue in the Vidhan Sabha and the public platforms.
On failing to get the possession of the land, the residents knocked the door of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the court directed the status and allowed them to sow paddy which 100 was not allowed.
The Khanna police district had set up a public naka on the pretext or preventing the activities of the militants’ but as a matter of fact the same was meant to stop the owners from tilling the land. The owners of the land had filed contempt proceedings against the Minister for Excise and Taxation and the SSP Khanna police district and the SHOW of the Isru police post. These petitions are still pending in the High Court.
