UNITED NATIONS: Namibia was admitted to the United Nations as its 160th member.
Delegates congratulated the Namibian Prime Minister Mr. Gingob when he took his seat in the world body,
Welcoming the newly independent state, secretary general Javier Perez De Cuellar spoke with satisfaction of the world body’s role in the Namibian independence. The success, he said, has encouraged other parties to call for similar peace making and peace keeping efforts.
It is of course an essential part of the responsibility of the
United Nations to help resolve regional conflicts,” he said.
