FATEHGARH SAHIB: Eleven persons, in Patiala district, are reported to have died of the mysterious disease which had earlier claimed 17 lives in Fatehgarh Sahib District. However, the health authorities and the Administration here have expressed ignorance about the matter.

Hospital records stated the deaths had taken place due to “Encephalitis” an acute inflammation of brain caused by a viral infection. However, they were unable to identify the virus that had caused ‘the disease. ; Medical experts said that the disease could occur in previously healthy persons or could be spread ‘by a known Arbo virus, this virus was further transmitted to man through mosquitoes or tics. This Japanese B virus Encephalitis was widespread in the area, they said. Various teams from Delhi, Chandigarh and Patiala had earlier visited the effected areas and collected samples but no report had been submitted.
