SOLAN (H.P.): The recent claim made by Salman Rushdie to his ancestral house here has exposed an organized racked in usurping property belonging to Muslims who left the country during partition. Though the district officials are tight-lipped about the racket they admit that Rushdie’s claim may have brought to light only the tip Of the iceberg.
It is hard to Say exactly how many houses and other property belonging to Muslims have changed hands over the past few decades but it can be definitely said that there is an organized gang of some property dealers working in collusion with the staff of various government Offices an official remarked.
He said it would be hand to say how many houses of Muslims were there in this town and how many of them left the country during partition but the number was definitely high. The names of only a few renowned Muslims who lived here are known there could be countless others who left and no one knows about then he added.
The official who wished to remain anonymous was not optimistic about the outcome of even a thorough Investigation Who will chock the authenticity of gift deeds wills and signatures when no one now knows anything about the actual owners he asked:
