NEW ENGLAND: Muslim/Sikh Friendship Society of New England deeply deplores the events that led to the destruction of the Sacred Shrine Babri Masjid of Ayodhya on Dec.6, 1992 by the Hindu fanatics in India. The tragedy in Ayodhya is a reminiscent of what Government of India did in June 1984 by ordering Indian Army to destroy the most sacred shrine of the Sikhs-The Golden Temple.
We are equally disturbed that Government of India is passively downplaying the gravity of the situation and has taken no action to stop this carnage of the innocent Muslims living elsewhere in India by the Hindu Terrorists.
It is evident that if these Hindu fundamentalists are let loose they will be encouraged to destroy other Mosques and Gurdwaras in India. We appeal to our brethren for calm and pray to Almighty to give them courage to bear this calamity and Start a dialogue with the oppressed Minorities like Dalit’s and Sikhs in India so that such incidents are prevented from future occurrences.
We urge the Secretary-General of the U.N.O. to reprimand the Government of India for this gross negligence to allow the Hindu Radicals to destroy the Sacred Shrine and urge the World Bank and I.M.F. to stop immediately any aid to India until the Government of India pledges to take concrete action to bring the situation to normalcy.
