CHANDIGARH: The outgoing Punjab governor Nirmal Kumar Mukharji in a statement deplored Operation Blue star conducted by Indira Gandhi 6 years ago.
This was the first time any govt official has criticized Operation Blue star.

On the other hand VP Singh recently observed that the Congress I did not create the Punjab problem. The PM’s statement amounted to his endorsement of the Congress policies and an indication that repression would continue in Punjab.
