NEW DELHI: Veteran Kashmiri leader Mufti Mohammed Sayeed returned to the Congress last week and promised to work for the party’s victory in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He had recently quit the Janata Dal following differences with the party leadership on the Kashmir policy. The former Union Home Minister’s homecoming was announced by All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman V.N. Gadgil last week. The Congress president had admitted the leader into the party, the spokesman said. The Mufti’s “welcome” press conference was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress

Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Rasool Kar, Youth Congress president Maninder Singh Bitta and PCC secretary Mangat Ram Sharma.
