CHANDIGARH: Akali Dal Mann has alleged an increase in the killing of Sikhs in fake police encounters. Ina letter to governor Mukharji, party secretary Mr. G.S. Sidhu said young boys were being arrested in large numbers and their whereabouts were being kept secret.

He said women were being arrested and tortured. Citing some examples Sidhu said Lakwinder Singh Lakha was arrested in Patiala and shown too died near Ludhiana five days later in an alleged encounter.

He said two sisters of Bhai Gurjant Singh Rajasthani were in police custody and were being tortured; Sidhu also brought to the notice of the governor the case of Kapurthala police torturing women. The wife of the party’s Kapurthala district chief was tortured she said.

Mrs. Sidhu also gave the case of the lady executive engineer being tortured in Bathinda Sidhu sought intervention of the governor who she said must tour these districts and see for himself the police atrocities.
