OTTAWA, (PTI): Some 8,819 Indians acquired permanent residence in Canada in 1989, according to information compiled by the immigration department. They constituted 8.8% of the total 192,001 immigrants allowed into the country.

Statistics show that of the Indians who acquired permanent residence in Canada, 6774 belonged to family class, 11 were refugees, 682 were assisted relatives and 170 entrepreneur’s.
