LUDHIANA: Additional paramilitary forces will start arriving in Punjab by June 1 to supplement the Punjab Police and the other central forces in maintaining law and order and conducting a free and fair poll in Punjab. This was stated by the Punjab Governor Gen O.P.Malhotra (retd) in an interview with The Tribune here recently.
General Malhotra said the state government had sought 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces for the conduct of the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha elections in Punjab.
He reiterated that the elections to the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha would be held according to the schedule. He said he was very » confident that the elections in Punjab would be smooth.
He said paramilitary pickets around the Golden Temple had! been lifted earlier addressing the annual meeting of the Ludhiana Management Association the Punjab Governor said his latest confidence building measure was the holding of elections to the three municipal corporations in the state which he said were free and fair.
Another confidence-building measure was to hold the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha elections in the state he said.
