NEW DELHI: The autobiography that every Indian publisher from Penguin to Rupa wanted to pilot, may not finally takes off. The publication of Mr. Khushwant Singh’s long-awaited) memoirs, whose imminent arrival had set gossip mills churning and extract prices soaring, was stayed by the Delhi High Court.
‘And the person responsible, India’s writer emeritus, Mr, Singh’s onetime friend, Ms. Menaka Gandhi. Justice K. Ramamurthy granted the injunction against Mr. Singh and his publisher (also his son-in-law), Mr. Ravi Dayal, in a suit filed by Ms, Gandhi, based on extracts of the book published in the October 31, 1995 edition of a forthrightly magazine.
The High Court restrained writer ‘Mr. Singh and Ravi Dayal Publishers from printing or circulating the autobiography, Truth, Love and a Lite Malice.
The autobiography was slated for publication sometime in January 1996.NeitherMr. Singh nor Mr. Dayal was available for comment.
