As trend in declining numbers of applicants to 127 US. medical school continued, Asian Ameri cans and women were once more the only minority under represented group, with a growing representation, according to a latest survey.
According to American Medical Association’s annual survey of graduate and under graduate medical education, from 19841988 academic years, the number of ‘Asian men jumped by 103.6 per cent, while the number of Asian women grew by 121 percent. In 1988 total of 12.4 percent of students who entered medical school were of Asian descent.
According to 1984 concerns 1.6 percent of U.S. population were of Asian descent.
Almost all of the increase in the percentage of minority medical students reported in the last years is attributable to steady and sizable increase in the number of Asian students, The survey shows that interest in medical education continue to decline among other ethnic groups.
