Confirming the advancement of the southwest monsoon into most of the parts of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and parts of Uttar Pradesh, at least a week ahead of the schedule, local meteorological officer. S.S.Awasthi, said the spell of the rainfall is due to the monsoon current from Bay of Bengal. Forecasting widespread rains or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana and a few places in Punjab, Awasthi added that the city experienced cool breeze at a speed of 10 to 15 Knots throughout the day also as the temperature dropped by average 4 degrees Celsius.
While the city which received a heavy downpour, 853 mm, became the wettest place in the north west region, Ambala recorded a rainfall of 82 mm. Rainfall was reported from almost all the parts of Himachal Pradesh including Bhunter, 5.3 mm, Pharamshala, 40.4 mm, Shimla, 9.9 mm, Guler, 34.5 mm, Nagota 27 mm, Sundemagar, Panoh, Rampurand Kasauli, Patiala, recorded down pour of 17.6 mm followed by Amritsar, 78 mm and Ludhiana 5.7 mm.
